Foundation Rugs have brought together some of the very best contemporary artists and designer to create a collection of beautiful one off hand-knotted rugs. These rugs have all been hand woven at our mill which is housed in a 19 Century Palace in Cairo. The rugs will be shown at the exhibition from the 1st – 6th November.
In our very first collection we have brought together cutting edge contemporary art and ancient Egyptian craftsmanship to create a collection of unique hand-knotted rugs.
We have challenged our favourite artists and designers to work within the textile medium. Artists include Anthony Burrill, Paul Insect, Pete Fowler, Present, Tomato, Alexone, Jack Teagle, Natasha Law, No Days Off, Si Scott and Yann Brien. Each design has then made its way onto the looms of a traditional mill housed in a beautiful 19th century palace in Cairo.
This mill has been owned by the same family for generations, who oversee the time-honoured hand-knotting craft whose products adorn some of the world’s most beautiful interiors.
The result is a stunning collection of one-off rugs that have taken just over a year to create and bring together some of the brightest talents in graphic design, illustration, graffiti, street art, pop culture and typography, interwoven with ageless Egyptian carpet-weaving craftsmanship.
There’s quite a few friends of Glug in that mega-list. Drop Mark a line there for limited guestlist. More info: http://foundationrugs.co.uk/collection-2012
